Xtravagant Return Postponed

Thursday, 27th August 2015

Exciting Kiwi colt Xtravagant (Pentire-Axiom, by Zabeel) has had his scheduled return to racing at Hastings this weekend put on hold, reports theinformant.co.nz. "He won't be running on Saturday," co-trainer Jamie Richards said. "His blood just hasn't been 100 per cent and we're not completely happy with him." He added: "We'll just take him along quietly for a few days. We still want to be back there at Hawke's Bay for the Guineas on the third day of the carnival, but we'll just need to find a suitable place to start him off. We'll know more in the next week or so." Xtravagant scored a stunning 7-length debut win at Hastings in the autumn and connections are hoping to run him in the Gr2 Hawke's Bay Guineas on his way towards the Gr1 NZ 2000 Guineas at Riccarton in November. From the unraced Zabeel mare Axiom, Xtravagant is a sibling to multiple Gr1 performer and NZ 2,000 Guineas runner-up He's Remarkable and was purchased by Te Akau Racing principal David Ellis for NZ$375,000 from the draft of Rich Hill Stud at last year's NZ Bloodstock Premier Yearling Sale.
