Sofia Rosa Sydney Bound

Friday, 28th August 2015

Australian plans for promising Kiwi filly Sofia Rosa (Makfi-Bislieri, by Encosta de Lago) will not necessarily depend on a winning return at Hastings on Saturday, reports NZ Racing Desk. Trainer Stephen Marsh said the 3YO would have her work cut out from barrier 14 in the Hastings - Heart of Hawke's Bay 1200, but a forward showing is all that is required to book a flight to Sydney. "She has drawn wide but as long as she is getting to the line well we'll be happy. The plan is for her to run in the Tea Rose Stakes [Gr2, 1400m] at Randwick on the 19th of September," said Marsh. "She doesn't have to win on Saturday to go over, but she obviously has to do something." Third in her only appearance last season in the Listed Champagne Stakes at Riccarton, Sofia Rosa is raced by Lib Petagna's JML Bloodstock whose colours have been made famous by two-time Gr1 winning filly Lucia Valentina.
