Monday, 31st August 2015

At Caulfield in Melbourne, triple Gr1-winning Darley shuttler & US Eclipse Award-winning stallion Bernardini (A.P. Indy-Cara Rafaela, by Quiet American) celebrated a Gr1 triumph when 6YO gelding Boban (Bernardini-Kenbelle, by Kenmare) scored by 0.1-length for trainer Chris Waller in the $400,000 Gr1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) for 3YO+, over 6YO gelding Entirely Platinum (Pentire-Platinum Blond, by Kaapstad) & 4YO entire Stratum Star (Stratum-Purely Spectacular, by Pins). This was the fifth Gr1 victory for Boban who was a $1000,000 purchase by BBA Ireland at the 2011 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the draft of Millbrook Stud. He took his record to 11 wins (including the Gr1 Doomben 10,000, Gr1 Chipping Norton Stakes, Gr1 Emirates Stakes, Gr1 Epsom Handicap, Gr3 Bill Ritchie Handicap & Gr3 Moonga Stakes) & 3 placings (including the Gr1 Stradbroke Handicap, Gr3 BTC Classic & Listed Hawkesbury Guineas) from 33 starts for $2,790,663 earnings. Trainer Chris Waller's Melbourne foreperson Justine Hales said Boban would now head back to Sydney for the Gr1 George Main Stakes (1600m) at Randwick on 19 September.
