Bounding Wins Gr3 theshark.com.au Stakes

Monday, 31st August 2015

At Caulfield in Melbourne, former Champion Australian Sire & 11-time Gr1-winning Darley World Champion Miler Lonhro (Octagonal-Shadea, by Straight Strike) added a Group success when 5YO New Zealand-bred mare Bounding (Lonhro-Believe'n'succeed, by Exceed and Excel) scored by 4-lengths for trainers Peter & Paul Snowden in the $150,000 Gr3 theshark.com.au Stakes (1100m) for 3YO+, over 4YO entire Rich Enuff (Written Tycoon-Hotnuff, by Spartacus) & fellow 5YO mare Miss Promiscuity (Magnus-Zipstream, by Distant Music). Having her first start for Team Snowden after being formerly prepared by Ken & Bev Kelso in New Zealand, Bounding took her record to 8 wins (including the Gr1 Railway Stakes, Gr3 Mr Tiz Trophy, Gr3 James & Annie Sarten Memorial Stakes, Gr3 Gold Trail Stakes & Listed Murdoch Newell Stakes) & 6 placings (including the Gr1 NZ 1,000 Guineas, Gr1 Diamond Stakes, Gr2 Gilgai Stakes & Gr2 Matamata Breeders' Stakes) from 15 starts for NZ$621,133 earnings. Trainer Peter Snowden said Bounding would now head to the Gr1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on 26 September. "It was just what we wanted to see, but in saying that she had a great record before I got her," Snowden said. "She has had 14 starts and 13 times she finished first or second, so it just tells you how much quality this mare has got." He added: "The Rupert Clarke, I think that it is tailor made for her."
