Monday, 31st August 2015

At Rosehill Gardens in Sydney, 6YO Irish-bred gelding Magic Hurricane (Hurricane Run-Close Regards, by Danehill) claimed the first stakes victory of his career when scoring by 0.1-length for trainer John O'Shea in the $100,000 Listed Premier's Cup (1800m) for 3YO+, over 7YO French-bred gelding Silverball (Kahyasi-Mikalia, by Kaldoun) & fellow 6YO Irish-bred gelding Kapour (Toylsome-Kitcat, by Monsun). The Godolphin-owned Magic Hurricane, who is by Montjeu's Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe-winning son Hurricane Run, took his record to 4 wins and 4 placings from 14 starts for $172,390 earnings. Trainer John O'Shea confirmed that Magic Hurricane's primary spring target is the Gr1 Metropolitan (2400m) at Royal Randwick on 3 October. "When he gets to weight-for-age over 2000 he is going to make a lovely horse and he has a wonderful turn-of-foot," O'Shea said. "His main goal will be The Metropolitan and then we will just wait and see."
