Leading UK Female Rider Set To Retire
Hayley Turner, widely acclaimed as the most successful female jockey in British racing history, is expected to retire at the end of the season, reports Racing Post. It is believed that Turner has become frustrated at the lack of opportunities to ride at the elite level as well as a reduced number of mounts during the week. Despite riding two Gr1 winners in 2011, when she became the first British woman to claim a top-flight victory aboard Dream Ahead in the July Cup followed by victory aboard Margot Did in the Nunthorpe Stakes, similar opportunities have been few and far between. Turner will remain involved in the industry pursuing a career in the media.
