No Cup For Rock Diva

Tuesday, 1st September 2015

Melbourne Cup plans for Rock Diva (Lucky Unicorn-Bohemian Blues, by Blues Traveller) have been shelved but a return to Australia is still very much a part of her long-term racing programme, reports NZ Racing Desk. The Melbourne Cup became the goal for Rock Diva after her victory in the Gr1 Auckland Cup (3200m) at Ellerslie in March but circumstances have conspired against her. "She's never really come up that well in the spring and it would be hard to get her in the cup off her rating," Cambridge trainer Tony Pike said. "It's very tough to get them ready with the way the weather has been here so we've pulled the pin on Melbourne." He added: "She'll probably run in similar races to her last preparation and hopefully we'll be taking her to Sydney next autumn," Pike said. "We'll take it slowly at this stage and she probably won't run for six or seven weeks." From the Blues Traveller (IRE) mare Bohemian Blues, Rock Diva is a half-sister to Australian Guineas & Australian Derby winner Shamrocker (O'Reilly), and Gr2 The Roses winner Bohemian Lily (O'Reilly).
