Burles Over The Moon With Cleaner
Trainer Mick Burles says he is "over the moon" with popular galloper The Cleaner (Savoire Vivre-Dash of Scotch, by Blessington) ahead of his next start in Saturday's Gr2 Dato' Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley. The recently crowned Tasmanian Horse of the Year resumed with a typically brave performance in the Gr2 PB Lawrence Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield 17 days ago when runner-up to Mourinho, and Burles says he is delighted with how he has come through the run. "He's really good," Burles told Melbourne's Radio Sport National yesterday. "You wouldn't know he even went around. He licked his bin out on the boat coming home and he hasn't stopped eating since." He added: "He didn't have a grass gallop or a trial [leading into the race]. He had nothing. It was a magnificent effort considering the work he'd done." The Cleaner had his final serious hit-out at Mowbray racecourse yesterday morning, with Burles reporting the 8YO to be in top shape. "I was over the moon with him, you couldn’t ask for any better,” Burles said. “He just did a bit of evens from the 1000 and ran home from the 600 in his own comfort zone. He just clicked him up at the top of the straight and he just powered away." he added: "I couldn’t be happier. He will come over on Thursday night, like he always does, go over to Pine Lodge for the day and then stay there.” The Dato' Tan Chin Nam promises to be one of the early highlights of the spring, with the likes of Contributer, Mourinho, Preferment, Foreteller, Hawkspur, Dibayani, Big Memory, Complacent, and talented Team Williams' imports The United States and Gallante, lining up in the $250,000 feature.
