Gleneagles And Pharoah May Meet In Breeders' Cup

Wednesday, 2nd September 2015

Aidan O'Brien has entered Gleneagles for the Breeders' Cup Classic setting up a potential mouth-watering clash with Triple Crown champion American Pharoah, reports Sky Sports. Ballydoyle's star colt is scheduled to make his next appearance in the Gr1 Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown on Saturday week, provided the ground is not too soft, with the BC Classic earmarked as his end- of-season target. "Given suitable ground, Gleneagles will run in the Irish Champion Stakes on Saturday week and, failing that, he will be aimed at the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot in October," O'Brien said. "His end-of-season target is the Breeders' Cup Classic at Keeneland where he may face American Pharoah." Gleneagles has proven himself to be Europe's premier miler this season, with classic victories in the English & Irish 2,000 Guineas, as well as the St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot. Gleneagles has been installed as a general 8-1 chance for the BC Classic.
