O'Shea Happy With Contributer

Wednesday, 2nd September 2015

Top-class import Contributer (High Chaparral-Serisia, by Exit to Nowhere) showed he was on song for his spring return in Saturday's Gr2 Dato' Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m) with a pleasing track gallop at Moonee Valley yesterday, reports Racenet. Having his first look at Moonee Valley, the dual Gr1 winner delighted Godolphin trainer John O'Shea when working over 1200m, breezing home his final 400m in 24.3 seconds. "That's what I wanted to see. It wasn't a gallop to run time, it was more important to let him get a feel for the track at a gallop," O'Shea said. "He got around really well, kicked off the bend and got to the line beautifully. I'm really happy with the work." O'Shea added: "Mentally he's very good and he's developed into a magnificent specimen. He's probably 20kg heavier and he's going to race at that on Saturday and it isn't a fat 20kg, he looks ready to go so hopefully that reflects in his performance." Imported into Australia by Godolphin last spring, the Irish bred son of High Chaparral was the star performer of the Sydney autumn carnival winning all three of his starts, namely the Gr1 Ranvet Stakes (200m), Gr1 Chipping Norton (1600m) and the Gr2 Apollo Stakes (1400m). O'Shea is setting Contributer for the $3 million Gr1 Cox Plate (2040m) at Moonee Valley on 24 October.
