ATC To Honour Bart Cummings

Thursday, 3rd September 2015

The Australian Turf Club (ATC) will host a special day of tribute to legendary trainer Bart Cummings on his home track at Royal Randwick this Saturday. Following consultation with the Cummings family, the ATC will hold a minute's silence and jockeys will carry black armbands as a formal mark of respect, following Bart's passing earlier this week. The club will repaint sections of lawn on Saturday in Bart's famous green and gold diagonal silks, while flags featuring the same colours will be flown inside the Theatre of the Horse. Highlights and interviews from Bart's six-decade career, produced by Sky Racing, including footage of some of his most famous wins, will be screened throughout the day on the infield superscreen. ATC Chief Executive Officer, Darren Pearce said Royal Randwick had been the home of the Cummings stable since 1975, and continued now with son Anthony and grandsons James and Edward based at the track. "Bart will forever stand in Australian history as an icon of racing, and will always be a special part of Royal Randwick," Pearce said. "In offering our support and condolences to the Cummings family, we are grateful that they have agreed to these special tributes on Saturday." He added: "We join with all of Australia in remembering and thanking Bart for his extraordinary career and the wonderful memories generated over so many decades."
