Vancouver Golden Rose Decision On Hold
Trainer Gai Waterhouse has postponed any decision regarding Vancouver's (Medaglia d'Oro-Skates, by Danehill) participation in Saturday week's $1 million Gr1 Golden Rose (1400m) following his lacklustre trial at Rosehill on Tuesday, reports AAP. The Golden Slipper winner looked a shadow of the horse that was unbeaten in a stellar juvenile season when hard ridden to finish third behind country galloper Slate On Edge over 1030 metres. "No decision. We will just shoot the breeze for the next week and then we'll decide exactly what we'll do," Waterhouse said. "He was on the inner track at Rosehill, it's only 1000-odd metres. He's probably a little bit out of his comfort zone, as an older horse he's probably looking for 1400 (metres)." She added: "But I'd be very surprised when he gets over 1400 on the track he won his Gr1 on [Rosehill] if you don't see the real Vancouver." Godolphin's impressive Gr2 Run To The Rose winner Exosphere currently heads the Golden Rose market at $2.80, ahead of Press Statement at $3.60 while Vancouver has drifted significantly to $4.40.
