Complacent Wins Gr2 Chelmsford Stakes

Monday, 7th September 2015

At Royal Randwick in Sydney, triple Gr1-winning former English Derby victor & Darley shuttler Authorized (Montjeu-Funsie, by Saumarez) added a Group success when 5YO entire Complacent (Authorized-Insouciance, by Quest for Fame) scored a surprise 1.3-length win for trainer John O'Shea in the $250,000 Gr2 Chelmsford Stakes (1600m) for 3YO+, over 4YO entire Kermadec (Teofilo-Hy Fuji, by Fuji Kiseki) & 5YO mare Royal Descent (Redoute's Choice-Mulan Princess, by Kaapstad). Complacent, who was having just his second start in 22 months, took his record to 4 wins (including the Gr1 Spring Champion Stakes) and 3 placings (including the Gr1 VRC Derby) from 8 starts for $815,725 earnings. "He's a great horse, but you don't need me to tell you that – you only have to look at his record," O'Shea said. "He's a magnificent horse and hopefully we can keep him sound and that's not the last win he'll have this season." He added: "I think the key for him is he needs to stay in Sydney. We'll have a chat and find another race for him."
