Monday, 7th September 2015

At Royal Randwick in Sydney, Vinery Stud's Gr1-winning stallion Casino Prince (Flying Spur-Lady Capel, by Last Tycoon) added a Group success when 5YO entire Hooked (Casino Prince-Absolute Lure, by Lure) scored by 0.5-length for trainer John Thompson in the $175,000 Gr2 Tramway Stakes (1400m) for 3YO+, over 6YO gelding Ecuador (High Chaparral-Bak da Princess, by Danske) & 5YO gelding Rudy (Red Dazzler-Go on Now Go, by Success Express). Hooked, who was purchased by Sean Buckley's Ultra Thoroughbred Racing Syndicate for $600,000 at the Magic Millions Patinack Farm Dispersal Sale, took his record to 5 wins (including the Gr2 Crystal Mile & Gr3 NJC Cameron Handicap) and 2 placings (including the Gr1 Epsom Handicap & Gr1 Australian Derby) from 26 starts for $793,000 earnings. "He's come back very well and is back to his old self," Thompson said. "He's just in a good frame of mind. He just needs to take that next step now and we'll try and get a Group 1."
