Spalato Wins Gr3 Jumbo Jet Trophy
At Kranji racecourse in Singapore, former Haunui Farm stallion Elusive City (Elusive Qality-Star Of Paris, by Dayjur) added a Group success when outstanding 6YO New Zealand-bred gelding Spalato (Elusive City-Ellington, by Express Duke) scored by 1.5-lengths for trainer John O'Hara in the Gr3 Jumbo Jet Trophy (1400m), over 5YO gelding Darci Charmer (Darci Brahma-Star Charm, by Cape Cross) & 7YO mare Gold Rutile (Gold Halo-Printemps Charme, by Northern Taste). Spalato took his record to 8 wins (including the Gr1 Patron's Bowl & Gr1 Singapore Derby) from 10 starts for S$1,213,941 earnings. "Hopefully he will go to the Kranji Mile next, but I will leave it to (owner) Graham (Mackie) to make the decision," trainer John O'Hara said. The Gr1 Kranji Mile (1600m) is the first Leg of the Singapore Triple Crown series and will take place on October 4. Mackie, the New Zealand owner who was on hand with his wife Trish Dunnell to watch Spalato race, was unsure of Spalato's future assignments. "There are some good races here in Singapore and there are some good races in Australia, too. We'll let you know as soon as possible which way he's going," he said.
