MRI Scan For First Seal

Tuesday, 8th September 2015

Classy mare First Seal (Fastnet Rock-Episode, by Scenic) had an MRI scan yesterday that will help determine whether she can race on this campaign, reports Racing.com. The John Thompson-trained 4YO was scratched from last Saturday's Gr2 Tramway Stakes (1400m) at Randwick with a minor hoof problem. It was the second time this prep that she has missed her spring kick-off, after withdrawing from the Gr2 Warwick Stakes (1400m) with a hoof abscess two weeks earlier. Thompson said the daughter of Fastnet Rock's spring campaign isn't over just yet, but admits he's starting to become worried by the niggling issues. "You've got to say that it's a worry but there's still plenty of time in the spring and plenty of nice races for her," Thompson told Melbourne's Radio Sport National. "She had a foot abscess two weeks ago which burst and left her with a hole in her foot." He added: "It was good for ten days and then on Friday afternoon there was a little bit of a pulse and Saturday morning she trotted up scratchy so we weren't going to risk it and took her out." Thompson has previously confirmed the Gr1 Epsom Handicap (1600m) at Randwick on 3 October as First Seal's primary spring target.
