Alpine Eagle Ready To Soar

Wednesday, 9th September 2015

Trainer Tony McEvoy says prodigiously talented galloper Alpine Eagle (High Chaparral-Zephyria, by Zabeel) is primed for Gr1 glory in Saturday's Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) at Flemington, reports horseracing.com.au. The High Chaparral 4YO emerged as a potential star in the autumn when scoring a stunning win in the Gr2 Autumn Classic (1800m) before finishing a close second behind Wandjina in the Gr1 Australian Guineas (1600m). He then kicked off his spring campaign with a fast-finishing second in the Listed Penny Edition Stakes in Adelaide 18 days ago, with McEvoy saying he was delighted with the run. "I thought the run was full of merit and he has come right on from it," McEvoy said. "I'm extremely pleased with him. He's done a couple of pieces of strong work since and keeps improving." He added: "It's the next level for him now as an older horse but one I think he will get to. The Makybe Diva looks a deep race but we've trained him for it, he's ready for the extra distance and Flemington will suit." The Makybe Diva has attracted 22 quality entries including Fawkner, Boban, Mongolian Khan, Volkstok'n'barrell, Rising Romance, and Our Ivanhowe. Click here to view all Flemington nominations.
