Go Indy Go Retired

Wednesday, 9th September 2015

Gr1-winning mare Go Indy Go (Bernardini-Elegant Eagle, by Zabeel) has been retired and is expected to be served by Fastnet Rock later this month, reports Sky Racing. Co-trainer Leon Macdonald described the daughter of Bernardini as the best horse he had trained following her victory in the Gr1 Champagne Stakes as a 2YO, but she failed to win a race in five starts last spring and connections decided to miss the autumn so she would have plenty of time to mature and develop. Her inability to put on weight has been the biggest concern although extensive tests failed to find any reason. Andrew Gluyas, who trained the 4YO in partnership with Macdonald in Adelaide, said the same problems had resurfaced. "It's come up again exactly the same as before," Gluyas said. "After a year we are back to square one so the owner, Harry Perks, has decided to pull the pin." He added: "It's a bit frustrating and disappointing but she is a valuable broodmare." Go Indy Go is a half sister to Gr3 winner Essay Raider and hails from the family of Golden Slipper winners Ha Ha and Rory's Jester. She retires with 2 wins from 11 starts for $420,450 earnings.
