Mongolian Khan Ready For Spring Launch
Co-trainer Andrew Forsman has provided an update on dual Classic winner Mongolian Khan (Holy Roman Emperor-Centafit, by Centaine) who is set to kick off his spring campaign in the Gr1 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on Saturday. The Australian and New Zealand Derby winner will be competing against older horses for the first time in the weight-for-age feature, as he sets out on a path towards the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups later in the spring. "I'm not in Melbourne but the reports back have been good. Murray [co-trainer Murray Baker] went over last week and saw him and said the piece of work he saw him do was up there with the best he's ever done," Forsman told Melbourne's Radio Sport National yesterday. "It's going to have to be because he's up against the older horses now." He added: "He's had plenty of work but there's nothing like raceday fitness so he'll take two or three runs I think to really hit his straps. He's not really a fresh, mile type of horse, but as long as he's hitting the line we will be happy with that." Mongolian Khan will be ridden by Kiwi jockey Opie Bosson and has drawn barrier 7.
