Waller To Train Promising Highclere Stayer
Irish-bred stayer Libran (Lawman-True Crystal, by Sadler's Wells) is set to join the Chris Waller stable with the 2016 Gr1 Sydney Cup his long range goal, reports AAP. Libran is owned by Highclere Thoroughbred Racing who've enjoyed previous success in Australia including with the Waller-trained Opinion, who was awarded last year's Gr1 Metropolitan after the disqualification of stable-mate Junoob. Although yet to be tested at stakes level, Libran has built an impressive record of 5 wins from 12 starts and demonstrated his talent when winning a competitive mile-and-a-half handicap at York's Ebor meeting last month. Waller said he is looking forward to teaming up with Highclere once again, and believes Libran will make an ideal Sydney Cup horse. "I have already enjoyed great success with Highclere and am thrilled that we can combine again with this horse," Waller said. By French Derby-winning sire Lawman, Libran is out of the Sadler's Wells mare True Crystal and hails from the family of Gr1 Fillies Mile winner Crystal Music, and Gr1 Yorkshire Oaks & Gr1 Prix Vermeille placegetter State Crystal.
