Let's Elope First-Up For Fenway
Co-trainer Shannon Hope has provided an update on the progress of top-class filly Fenway who makes her seasonal return in the Gr2 Let's Elope Stakes (1400m) on Saturday. The beautifully bred High Chaparral filly won the Gr1 Vinery Stud Stakes in Sydney in the autumn, before finishing a close second to star WA filly Delicacy in the Gr1 Australasian Oaks in May. "She certainly has developed. She has got physically stronger and I would say a lot mentally stronger too," Hope told Melbourne's Radio Sport National yesterday. "She is certainly fit enough to win on Saturday." Hope added: "I'll make a decision after Saturday as to whether we go to the Toorak or the Stock Stakes. I might even keep her to mares company and go to the Stock Stakes then the Cox Plate… we will weigh up our options after Saturday." Fenway is by High Chaparral out the Zabeel mare Deedra, a half sister to Gr1 winners Tuesday Joy and Sunday Joy (dam of More Joyous) and a granddaughter of celebrated blue hen Denise's Joy. Bred by John Singleton's Strawberry Hill Stud, Fenway was a $700,000 purchase by Colm Santry at the 2013 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
