Legatissimo Wins Gr1 Matron Stakes

Monday, 14th September 2015

At Leopardstown in Ireland, former Coolmore shuttler Danehill Dancer (Danehill-Mira Adonde, by Sharpen Up) celebrated a Gr1 success when 3YO filly Legatissimo (Danehill Dancer-Yummy Mummy, by Montjeu) scored by 2.25-lengths for trainer David Wachman in the Gr1 Matron Stakes (8 furlongs) for 3YO+ f&m, over 4YO mare Cladocera (Oasis Dream-Caesarine, by Pivotal) & fellow 3YO filly Ainipee (Captain Rio-Imitation, by Darshaan). Racing in the familiar orange and blue silks of Coolmore triumvirate Michael Tabor, Derrick Smith, and Susan Magnier, Legatissimo took her record to 5 wins (including the Gr1 1,000 Guineas & Gr1 Nassau Stakes) and 3 placings (including the Gr1 Epsom Oaks and Gr1 Pretty Polly Stakes) from 10 starts for £879,082 earnings. Trainer David Wachman said that Legatissimo would be aimed at the Gr1 Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf at Keeneland in October. "She's been improving all year. She seemed to travel very well, quicken well and put it to bed well," Wachman told Sky Sports. "She hadn't run in about six weeks and we'll try to give her another six weeks and head to the Breeders' Cup." He added: "I'll have to talk the owners, but I'd like to go for the Filly and Mare Turf."
