Keeneland Sept Day-1: US$1.45M For War Front Filly
The 72nd Keeneland September Yearling Sale, the world's largest thoroughbred auction, has commenced in strong fashion with Shadwell Estate Company purchasing a War Front filly for US$1.45 million on day one of the sale, reports Blood Horse. Consigned as Hip 116 by Mr and Mrs T Wayne Sweezey's Timber Town, the filly is the first foal out of the winning Galileo mare Betterbetterbetter, a three-quarters sister to Irish classic winner Yesterday and Gr1 winner Quarter Moon, the dam of Gr1 Pretty Polly Stakes winner Diamondsandrubies (Fastnet Rock). The bay filly was bred by Mandy Pope's Whisper Hill Farm. An emotional Pope told Shadwell manager Rick Nichols: "You have made a dream of mine come true, to sell a horse like that. It's the first time ever for me, and thank you so much, and I'm so glad y'all have her. I know she'll have a wonderful home. I'm just so thrilled I'm going to cry. I've been more nervous about this than I have about running a horse." Pope paid US$5.2 million for Betterbetterbetter at the 2013 Fasig-Tipton November Sale.
