Keeneland Sept Day-2: US$1M For Fastnet Rock Filly
The profile of champion Australian sire Fastnet Rock continues to rise among the international breeding and racing fraternity, with Spendthrift Farm purchasing a beautifully bred filly by the Coolmore stallion for US$1 million early on day two of the Keeneland September Yearling Sale in Kentucky, reports Blood Horse. "This is as good a female family as anywhere in the world," said Ned Toffey, general manager of B. Wayne Hughes' Spendthrift, which expanded into the Australian market earlier this year when it acquired Yallambee Stud in Victoria. "She doesn't have to run a step to be worth a lot of money," he added. "She is a good representation of that stallion. They tend to be strong, stout, powerfully made and she was that." The bay filly is out of the Gr1-placed Maryinsky (Sadler's Wells-Blush With Pride, Blushing Groom), making her a three-quarter sister to multiple Gr1 winner (including the Irish Oaks) Peeping Fawn (Danehill) and a half-sister to Gr1 Saint-Cloud Criterium International winner and Windsor Park shuttler Thewayyouare (Kingmambo). This is the celebrated family of blue hen Best In Show, arguably the most sought after bloodline in the world. Other esteemed members include champion Australian sire Redoute's Choice, Hurricane Sky, Umatilla, Xaar, Al Maher, Sex Appeal (dam of stallion heavyweights Try My Best & El Gran Senor), Kentucky Oaks winner Blush With Pride, and her daughter Better Than Honour, who fetched a world-record price of US$14 million for a broodmare in 2008 and is the dam of US classic winners Rags To Riches & Jazil.
