George Main Preferred For Hooked

Thursday, 17th September 2015

Trainer John Thompson has provided an update on impressive first-up winner Hooked (Casino Prince-Absolute Lure, by Lure) who is a dual acceptor for Friday's Gr3 Cameron Handicap at Newcastle and Saturday's Gr1 George Main Stakes at Randwick. Thompson says he is delighted with the 5YO who resumed with a strong win in the Gr2 Tramway Stakes (1400m) at Randwick 12 days ago. He said the son of Casino Prince was likely to avoid the F3 traffic by remaining at home for the Gr1 feature, citing the race's lack of a penalty for next month's Epsom Handicap as the determining factor. "We've accepted with Hooked [in Newcastle] but he is also in here [Sydney] on Saturday in the George Main," Thompson told Melbourne's Radio Sport National. "I'm probably leaning more towards running him in the George Main because you don't get a penalty then for the Epsom, and he's nicely weighted in that on 54kg." He added: "He's great. I think he's better than ever. He looks fantastic, he always runs well at Randwick and he has come on since his first-up run when he was a little bit gross."
