Lankan To Trial Monday

Thursday, 17th September 2015

Star sprinter Lankan Rupee (Redoute's Choice-Estelle Collection, by Stravinsky) is set to make his first public appearance this spring when he trials at Cranbourne on Monday, reports Racing.com. The 5-time Gr1 winner, who has not raced since being well beaten in the Gr1 TJ Smith Stakes at Randwick in April, will be restricted to a three-run campaign comprising the Gr2 Schillaci Stakes (1100m) on Caulfield Guinea day, the Gr1 Manikato Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on 24 October, and the Gr1 Darley Classic (1200m) at Flemington on 7 November. "He's a little bit chubby at the moment but he worked on the course proper at Caulfield on Tuesday and he's very good," trainer Mick Price said. "He's sound and happy and I've just got to tune him up a little bit and he should be good to go in the Schillaci." Regular rider Craig Newitt said he pleased with the 6YOs work at Caulfield on Tuesday. "He feels great and has come back in good order and is ready to go to the trials next week," Newitt said. "He feels pain-free and I can't fault his action at all which is the main thing." He added: "That was what we had trouble with him last preparation, he wasn't stretching out but he's come back in good order and is ready to rock 'n' roll."
