Orbec Ready For Newcastle Cup

Thursday, 17th September 2015

Meanwhile, trainer John Thompson says he is expecting a bold showing from former French stayer Orbec (Le Havre-Langrune, by Fasliyev) in Friday's Gr3 Newcastle Cup (2300m) at Newcastle. Thompson is hoping the highly regarded import can finally break through for his maiden Australian win after racing without much luck in his two starts this campaign. "He's going well," Thompson told Melbourne's Radio Sport National. "He ran well in the Wyong Cup last start, just got held up for a run a little bit there and by the time he got out the bird had flown." He added: "It will great to see him back on a big track over more distance and the further he goes the better he will get." Thompson also said any rain would be in the 5YOs favour. "He'll run well on the dry, but the wetter it gets the better he will get," he said.
