Eloping Close To Return

Friday, 18th September 2015

Meanwhile, trainer John Sargent has also provided an update on the progress of stakes winning mare Eloping (Choisir-Runaway Jesse, by Rory's Jester) who is nearing her return to the races. Formerly trained in Victoria by Peter Morgan and Craig Widdison, the dual Gr3 winner was transferred to Sargent's Randwick stable after finishing well down the track in the Listed Bel Esprit Stakes at Caulfield in the autumn. "Kevin Maloney from Segenhoe bought into the horse and she's up and galloping now. She's just taken time to lose her winter coat after coming up from Melbourne, but she is working well and isn't far away from returning," Sargent told Melbourne's Radio Sport National. "They brought her up here [Sydney] to get some black-type before she goes to stud next year. The way she is working I think she will match it with the best up here because she is showing a lot of speed on the track. She's flying at the moment." He added: "She will probably start off in the Lightning or a race like that," in reference to the Listed Lightning Stakes (1100m) at Randwick on 16 October. Eloping is a winner of 6 of her 16 starts for over $1 million prize money.
