Keeneland Sept Day-3: Recap

Spirited competition among buyers led to significant gains and the sale of six seven-figure yearlings during Wednesday's third session of the 72nd Keeneland September Yearling Sale in Kentucky. Highlighting the action was the bidding war between Whisper Hill's Mandy Pope and Triple Crown-winning trainer Bob Baffert that resulted in Pope walking away with a colt (Hip 614) by leading North American sire Tapit for US$2.1 million. In total, 151 yearlings were sold for US$46,754,000, up 57.87 per cent over 2014 when 104 yearlings grossed US$29,615,000. The average of US$309,629 rose 8.73 per cent from last year's US$284,760, while the median increased 25 per cent, from US$200,000 to US$250,000. The other yearlings to fetch seven-figures on day three were:

  • Tapit colt for US$1.65 million(Hip 530)
  • Bernardini filly for US$1.5 million (Hip 511)
  • War Front colt for US$1.15 million (Hip 495)
  • Street Cry filly for US$1.05 million (Hip 718)
  • War Front filly for US$1 million (Hip 618)
