Magnapal Wins Gr3 Naturalism Stakes

Monday, 21st September 2015

At Caulfield in Melbourne, Eliza Park's Gr1 Galaxy-winning stallion Magnus (Flying Spur-Scandinavia, by Snippets) added a Group success when 6YO gelding Magnapal (Magnus-Luxapal, by Kenny's Best Pal) scored by 0.2-length for trainers Terry & Karina O'Sullivan in the $150,000 Gr3 Naturalism Stakes (2000m) for 3YO+, over 6YO Irish-bred entire The United States (Galileo-Beauty is Truth, by Pivotal) & 5YO gelding Genuine Lad (Ladoni-Genuine Blonde, by Sandpit). This was successive stakes victories for Magnapal who took his record to 7 wins (including the Listed Heatherlie Stakes) and 7 placings from 36 starts for $345,105 earnings. Magnapal's win guarantees him a start in the $3 million Gr1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) on 17 October. Trainer Terry O'Sullivan, who purchased Magnapal for $70,000 at the 2011 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale from the draft of Yallambee Stud, was delighted to have secured a sport in the Caulfield Cup. "We're absolutely rapt," he told Racing.com. "It's a bit of a pipe dream but we've got over the first hurdle - he's in the race." He added: "He may run at Moonee Valley in that JRA Cup and then go into the Caulfield Cup."
