Soubrettes Returns In Style

Monday, 21st September 2015

Trainers Matt and Mandy Brown are keen on a summer return to Trentham with their classy sprinting mare Soubrettes, reports NZ Racing Desk. The husband and wife team have a second attempt at the Gr1 The Telegraph high on their wish list for the gifted daughter of High Chaparral. "We want to give it another crack," Mandy Brown said. "She's going super and she's gone from strength to strength. She's a quirky little thing and mentally she's a lot stronger as well." Soubrettes (High Chaparral-Burlesque, by Thorn Park) finished fifth in the Wellington feature earlier this year and made her return to racing on Saturday when scoring a comfortable win in the Dyer Decorating Open Handicap (1200m) at Riccarton. "There's a lot of improvement in her," Brown said. "In the autumn I was really disappointed the way she trained off so in her best interests she went for a spell and she's come back really well." Soubrettes dam, Burlesque, is a half-sister by Thorn Park to Gr1 Otaki-Maori WFA winner Star Satire, who in turn is the mother of Gr2 winners Satin Shoes and Zarzuela from the family of Gr1 winners Ray's Hope, Silver Nymph and Silver Wraith. Star Satire is also the dam of the lightly raced but highly promising Satya (Redoute's Choice), who hit the line strongly for sixth in Saturday's Gr3 How Now Stakes at Caulfield.
