Alpine Eagle Dilemma For McEvoy

Tuesday, 22nd September 2015

Prodigiously talented galloper Alpine Eagle (High Chaparral-Zephyria, by Zabeel) has been entered for Saturday's Gr1 Underwood Stakes (1800m) at Caulfield but is likely to miss the race, reports Racenet. Trainer Tony McEvoy says his preference is to wait and run Alpine Eagle in Sunday week's Gr1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m) at Flemington, but he is not sure if the son of High Chaparral will make the field. "I'll probably go to the Turnbull Stakes but I just don't know if he will get a run," McEvoy said. "I've got him in the Underwood but I'm still not going to know whether he would get a run in the Turnbull." He added: "It [the Turnbull] is his race. He'll carry 54.5kg but the light weight could work against me and he might not get a run." McEvoy said he would make a decision later in the week.
