Fontiton Pleases In Jump-Out

Tuesday, 22nd September 2015

High class filly Fontiton (Turffontein-Personal Ensign, by Rubiton) will resume against some of Australia's best sprinters after pleasing trainer Robert Smerdon in a 900m jump-out at Ballarat on Sunday, reports Racenet. The 3YO has not raced since injuring herself in February's Gr1 Blue Diamond Stakes, in which she surrendered her unbeaten record when finishing 5th behind outstanding colt Pride Of Dubai. Fontiton then underwent surgery to remove two bone chips in a front fetlock but Smerdon says she is fit and ready to return to the races. The Caulfield trainer plans on giving her three runs this campaign, kicking off with the Gr1 Moir Stakes (1000) at Moonee Valley on 2 October. "We've decided to keep her sprinting. She's won a Group II and a Group III so we'll go to the Moir first-up," Smerdon said. "She'll then run in the Schillaci (Gr2 Schillaci Stakes) and then the Coolmore (Gr1 Coolmore Stud Stakes)." Craig Williams has been booked to ride Fontiton first-up in the Moir and got his first feel of the filly in Sunday's jump-out. "She jumped out of the gates with two others and had a solid hit-out," Smerdon said. "Craig got a feel of her before he rides her in the Moir. She sat off a fast pace and finished off really well."
