Lankan Rupee Impresses In Trial
Star sprinter Lankan Rupee (Redoute's Choice-Estelle Collection, by Stravinsky) has signalled a big spring campaign is ahead of him following an impressive trial win at Cranbourne yesterday, reports Racing.com. Partnered by regular rider Craig Newitt, the 5-time Gr1 winner cruised to the line under a tight hold to defeat Angelic Light by 1.25-lengths in 47.57 seconds, with dual Gr1 winning mare Srikandi a further neck away in third. "It was a good trial and the horse was relaxed, bright and bouncy so I can see no reason why he won't come up this preparation," trainer Mick Price said. "He looks fantastic and for his age he hasn't had a lot of racing." He added: "He's had a really good spell, he looks fantastic and he might go for an exhibition gallop at Caulfield on Saturday. We'll just think about taking him there to spunk him up a bit." Lankan Rupee, who has not raced since being well beaten in the Gr1 TJ Smith Stakes at Randwick in April, will be restricted to a three-run campaign kicking off with the Gr2 Schillaci Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield on 10 October (Caulfield Guineas day), before contesting the Gr1 Manikato Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on 24 October, and the Gr1 Darley Classic (1200m) at Flemington on 7 November.
