Srikandi On Track For Manikato

Tuesday, 22nd September 2015

Top-class mare Srikandi (Dubawi-Raining, by Hurricane Sky) showed she was on track for the major sprints over the carnival when finishing third behind Lankan Rupee and Angelic Light in an 800m barrier trial at Cranbourne yesterday. Srikandi, who established herself as one of the best sprinting mares in Australia when claiming the Gr1 winter double of the Stradbroke Handicap and Tattersall's Tiara in Brisbane, is likely to be restricted to a light spring campaign comprising the Gr1 Manikato Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on 23 October, and the $1 million Gr1 Darley Classic (1200m) at Flemington on 7 November. "She wasn't asked to do a lot this morning, it was more about just getting her into the rhythm of things and she just had a nice easy trial and I thought she went well," trainer Ciaron Maher told Racing.com. "She might just have two runs this preparation, the Manikato and the Darley Sprint as well but at this stage she's in great order and is hopefully in for a good campaign." Maher has previously stated that Srikandi's long-term target is the Gr1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot next year.
