Moroney Happy With Alaskan Rose
Trainer Mike Moroney has provided an update on boom filly Alaskan Rose (Encosta de Lago-Saskia, by Redoute's Choice) ahead of Saturday's Gr2 Thousand Guineas Prelude (1400m) at Caulfield. The daughter of Encosta de Lago is unbeaten in her two starts to date, but faces her biggest test when she makes her stakes debut on Saturday. "I'm very happy," Moroney told Melbourne's Radio Sport National. "I thought she worked the best she has this campaign on Tuesday." He added: "She worked in company with Yesterday's Songs. They just did a bit of even time and she came home the last 600m nicely. She worked just as well as him and he's a good worker." Moroney said he wouldn't swap Alaskan Rose for any other filly in race, but although he is confident she will run well he feels she won't be at her peak until next month's Gr1 Thousand Guineas. "I think she will be at her most vulnerable this weekend because she will need all of the 1400m," he said. "We really think her best trip is going to be a mile plus."
