Bohemian Lily To Step Up

Friday, 25th September 2015

Trainer Gai Waterhouse expects talented mare Bohemian Lily (O'Reilly-Bohemian Blues, by Blues Traveller) to improve markedly on her two runs this preparation when she lines up in the Gr3 Colin Stephen Quality (2400m) at Rosehill tomorrow. An impressive winner of the Gr2 The Roses on her final start as a 3YO, Bohemian Lily has failed to flatter in two runs this campaign with her latest appearance resulting in a 9th place finish in the Gr2 Hill Stakes behind Preferment last weekend. However, Waterhouse seems confident that the daughter of O'Reilly is ready to show her best. "She's come through the run absolutely super, I could not be more pleased with her," Waterhouse said. "It's a most winnable race on Saturday and she's a wonderfully-bred staying mare." Waterhouse said she hold no fears about the quick 7-day turnaround. "It doesn't worry me one iota, not the way she's come off her last run, she's done so well," she said. Bohemian Lily will have to step up significantly on Saturday if she is to be regarded as a genuine chance in her two primary spring targets, the Gr1 Metropolitan (2400m) and the Gr1 Melbourne Cup (3200m).
