Sky Hunter On Melbourne Cup Trail

Friday, 25th September 2015

Trainer Saeed bin Suroor has confirmed that talented Godolphin stayer Sky Hunter will be aimed at the Melbourne Cup after an encouraging return at Newbury last Saturday. The 5YO son of Motivator was having his first start since romping to a 9.25-length win in the Gr2 City Of Gold Stakes (2400m) at Dubai in March, when finishing a narrow second to The Corsican in Gr3 Legacy Cup over 2100m. "I was very happy with him and he has come out of the race in good form," Bin Suroor said. "The plan is to take him to Australia for the Melbourne Cup. Hopefully that will be his next race." Bin Suroor will be hoping to correct the disappointing record of British-based trainers in the Melbourne Cup, with 71 runners since 1993 producing a zero winners. Sky Hunter, who boasts a good horses record of 6 wins from 11 starts, as well as a Gr1 placing in the French Derby, has been cut to as short as 33-1 for the Melbourne Cup.
