Smarts Encosta To Hong Kong

Tuesday, 29th September 2015

Promising 4YO Smarts Encosta has joined Paul O'Sullivan's Hong Kong team, reports NZ Racing Desk. The lightly raced gelding was an impressive 4.5-length debut winner last year for Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young before he joined the yard of O'Sullivan's brother Lance and Andrew Scott. Smarts Encosta was a first-up winner for the stable at Awapuni before he finished runner-up at Matamata and he hasn't raced since he was unplaced in the Gr2 Wellington Guineas in the autumn. Raced by Hong Kong-based owner Nestor Chan, Smarts Encosta is by Encosta de Lago out of the Danehill mare Smarts, winner of the Gr2 Reisling Slipper Trial and Gr3 Kindergarten Stakes in Sydney. He has won 2 of his 4 starts for NZ$22,500 prize money.
