Take Charge Brandi Retired

Tuesday, 29th September 2015

Champion US filly Take Charge Brandi (Giant's Causeway-Charming, by Seeking the Gold) has been retired from racing and will be sent to John Sikura's Hill 'n' Dale Farms near Lexington, Kentucky reports Blood Horse. "You hate to see a champion retire but it was the right thing to do," said Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas. "Take Charge Brandi was supremely talented and determined. I almost ran her in the Los Alamitos Futurity (Gr1) the week after the Starlet and think she would have been very tough to beat. She reminds me of Serena's Song in her determination and natural ability." He added: "She is the complete package and has everything you look for in a great broodmare prospect." A decision is expected in the next few weeks as to whether Take Charge Brandi will be bred or offered for sale at the Keeneland November Sale. Bred in Kentucky, Take Charge Brandi is out of a daughter of US Broodmare of the Year Take Charge Lady, dam of 2013 Champion 3YO Male Will Take Charge. Last year's Eclipse Award winning 2YO filly retires with 5 wins from 11 starts for over US$1.6 million prize money. Take Charge Brandi's biggest wins were in the 2014 Gr1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (below) and the Gr1 Starlet Stakes.
