Gust Of Wind On Track For Cups

Wednesday, 30th September 2015

Meanwhile, Kirramosa's equally talented stable-mate Gust Of Wind (Darci Brahma-Starrystarrynight, by Sadler's Wells) will continue her Caulfield and Melbourne Cups campaign when she lines up in the Gr1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m) at Flemington on Sunday. Last season's Australian Oaks winner will be having her third run back from a spell after finishing 9th (beaten 4.1 lengths) and 8th (beaten 1.8 lengths) in the Gr2 Warwick Stakes and Gr1 Makybe Diva Stakes respectively. Although he expects her to perform well on Sunday, Sargent says Gust Of Wind won't be fully effective until she gets out to a mile-and-a-half and beyond. "She's just where I want her," Sargent told Melbourne's Radio Sport National. "Whatever she does on the weekend she is on her way towards the Cups. That will top her off nicely for Caulfield and then the Melbourne Cup. She's working very well and I think as long as she is hitting the line like she did in her first run, I'll be very happy." He added: "I don't think she can beat Kermadec and co over that distance at the weights, but over 2400 metres and two miles I think you'll see the best of her." Click here to view Flemington fields for Sunday.
