Injury Sidelines Jess's Dream

Wednesday, 30th September 2015

Jess's Dream, the beautifully bred 3YO by US Horses of the Year Curlin and Rachel Alexandra, has been sidelined due to lameness in his right hind leg, reports Blood Horse. The colt, who has had one start for an impressive victory at Saratoga, will recuperate for the next 30 days at the Lexington farm of his owner/breeder Stonestreet Stables before being shipped to Stonestreet's training centre near Ocala, Florida, according to trainer Kiaran McLaughlin. "I expect to get him back in December," said McLaughlin. "He just needed some time off." He added: "He came out of his race in good shape. He's never had any physical issues, so we are looking forward to getting him back. He is a nice horse, and we'll have a good 4-year-old in the barn." Jess's Dream is the first of the only two foals to be produced by 2009 Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra, with the other being 2YO filly Rachel's Valentina (Bernardini), who is unbeaten in two starts after winning the Gr1 Spinaway Stakes at Saratoga earlier this month. Due to complications following the birth of Rachel's Valentina, Stonestreet Stables' owner Barbara Banke's said she will never breed with Rachel Alexander again.
