Kirramosa Ready For Epsom

Wednesday, 30th September 2015

Former New Zealand and now Sydney-based trainer John Sargent has provided an update on talented racemare Kirramosa (Alamosa-Freyja, by Danske) who will contest Saturday's $1 million Gr1 Epsom Handicap (1600m) at Royal Randwick. The VRC Oaks winner has returned in top shape with three excellent runs this campaign, including a last start fifth (beaten 3-lengths) behind Kermadec in the Gr1 George Main Stakes (1600m) at Randwick. Sargent has been delighted with the 5YOs progress this campaign, and is confident she will put up a bold showing on the weekend. "I couldn't be happier with her. She looks like she is coming back to her best and she'll be right in it," Sargent told Melbourne's Radio Sport National. "The best thing is that the weather has come right. She just couldn't ping off that slow track last time [in the George Main]. I've kept a bit in her legs these past two weeks. She galloped today [Tuesday] and won't do anything else for the rest of the week except swim, go to the beach, and go to the treadmill so she will be jumping out of her skin by Saturday." He added: "As long as they go hard she can run a strong mile, or mile-and-a-half, so it will suit her." Sargent said the only horse he fears is the Chris Waller-trained Winx, who resumed with a stunning win in the Gr2 Theo Marks Stakes (1300m) at Rosehill 18 days ago. "I'm sure Winx will be hard to beat," he said. "She looks very smart, but apart from her it looks very even." Kirramosa has drawn barrier 10 and will be ridden by Blake Shinn.
