Williams Foregoes Guineas Meeting For Weatherly Ride

Tuesday, 1st March 2016

In a massive vote of confidence for exciting juvenile Weatherly (Beneteau-Luna Belle, by Stravinsky), big race rider Craig Williams has chosen to miss next Saturday's rich Gr1 Australian Guineas meeting to partner with the 2YO colt in the Gr2 Todman Stakes at Randwick in Sydney. Weatherly was highly impressive when bungling the start for the second time in his two race career before flying home to claim the Listed Talindert Stakes (1100m) at Flemington 10 days ago. The decision may prove long-sighted for Williams with Weatherly heading towards the Gr1 Golden Slipper, the richest race for 2YOs in the world. According to horse racing.com.au, Williams said, "Wherever he goes at this stage, I'll follow him." Williams believes the Todman will prove to be the Slipper preview, with star Magic Millions 2YO Classic hero Capitalist among the early nominees.
