No Shock If James & Coleman Land NZ Derby

Wednesday, 2nd March 2016

Saturday is New Zealand Derby Day at Ellerslie in Auckland, and trainer Roger James is quietly confident he has the horse to provide him with his 6th win in the race. For jockey Michael Coleman it would be Derby win number three. The duo combine with highly touted The Hassler, who is a 16/1 shot over the 2400m journey on the weekend, having worked particularly pleasingly yesterday morning. A son of former Melbourne Cup winner Shocking, these days a stallion at Rich Hill Stud, The Hassler sold for $56,000 at the Festival session of the 2014 NZB National Yearling Sales Series. Twice a winner over 2100m, The Hassler will have Coleman in the irons as a result of regular jockey Vinnie Colgan electing to stick with Derby favourite Rangipo.
