Tryster Wins Gr1 Jebel Hatta Stakes

Monday, 7th March 2016

At Meydan racecourse in Dubai, European champion 4-time Gr1-winning former Darley shuttler Shamardal (Giant's Causeway-Helsinki, by Machiavellian) celebrated an elite Gr1 success when Godolphin's 5YO Irish-bred gelding Tryster (Shamardal-Min Alhawa, by Riverman) utilised a brilliant burst of speed to score by 1.5-lengths for trainer Charlie Appleby in the Gr1 Jebel Hatta Stakes (1800m) for 3YO+, over 8YO US gelding Farrier (Tapit-Wild Vision, by Wild Again) & 4YO Australian-bred entire Ertijaal (Hard Spun-Alharir, by Jeune). Jockey William Buick paid Tryster a huge compliment describing his win as "breathtaking". Buick told Racing post: "I've ridden a lot of horses who have a great turn of foot but I can safely say I've never ridden one like him." He added: "He's had a great prep and we're looking forward to him on World Cup night." Tryster - who is set to clash with star European miler Solow in the Gr1 Dubai Turf on World Cup night (26 March) - took his record to 9 wins from 12 starts for over £450,000 earnings.
