Xtravagant Spelled

Tuesday, 8th March 2016

Star Kiwi colt Xtravagant won't race again this season following his disappointing performance in last Saturday's Gr1 Australian Guineas (1600m) at Flemington, reports NZ Racing Desk. Despite a clean veterinary bill of health after his eighth placing in the 3YO classic, connections have decided to send the son of Pentire to the spelling paddock. "He's pulled up well and there is nothing amiss with him," co-trainer Stephen Autridge said. Regular rider Matt Cameron was unable to shed any light on Xtravagant's failure to reproduce his impressive New Zealand form and said the three-year-old had his chance at Flemington. Xtravagant was sent out as the $2.80 favourite for the Australian Guineas off the back of his two stunning 8-length victories in the Gr1 NZ 2000 Guineas and Gr1 Waikato Sprint.
