Australian Oaks Preferred For Capella

Wednesday, 9th March 2016

Matamata trainer Dancia Guy has expressed her delight with Capella's eye-catching run in Saturday's Gr1 New Zealand Derby and is now weighing up options for the highly talented daughter of Rip Van Winkle, reports NZ Racing Desk. The Gr2 Eight Carat Classic winner showed she was back to her best when storming home from well back in the field to finish a close-up fourth (beaten 0.5-length) behind Rangipo in the blue riband classic. "I was absolutely delighted with my horse and very, very proud of her after an interrupted preparation," Guy said. "She came through the run really well and wouldn't have blown a match out after the race which is quite amazing." She added: "She will have a few days off now to get over it, but I couldn't be happier." Guy will discuss options with Capella's owner Gary Harding but is leaning towards an Australian campaign aimed at the Gr1 Vinery Stud Stakes and Gr1 Australian Oaks rather than the New Zealand Oaks.
