Joseph O'Brien To Quit Riding

Wednesday, 9th March 2016

Two-time champion Irish jockey Joseph O'Brien has announced he is relinquishing all riding duties this year to focus on his new role as a trainer, reports Racing Post. The 22 year-old O'Brien, who is set to be granted his own training licence next month, has been preparing for the next stage of his career by helping his father - champion Irish trainer Aidan O'Brien - with a string of about 70 horses. "It's hard enough to make a decent job of one thing never mind trying to juggle two things so I'll be concentrating on training and won't be riding any more," O'Brien Jnr said. O'Brien Jnr's decision to follow in his father's footsteps and quit the saddle was widely expected due to his well publicised battle with his weight.
