Melito To Visit Galileo

Wednesday, 9th March 2016

Former top-class Australian mare Melito (Redoute's Choice-Cloister, by Marauding) is set to be served by world champion stallion Galileo this year, reports Racing Post. Melito, a dual Gr1 winner of the TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) and Winter Stakes (1400m), was purchased by Coolmore for $1.65 million at the 2012 Magic Millions National Select Broodmare Sale with the China Horse Club taking a 25 per cent stake. "She's by Redoute's Choice [a son of Danehill] and everyone knows how successful the Galileo-Danehill cross has been," said bloodstock agent Mick Flanagan, who advises the China Horse Club. "She was trained in Australia by Gerald Ryan, who is a serious trainer of sprinters. She was quick and is a very good-looking mare. When you send Galileo a quick mare the resulting offspring could just change your life. We're doing the obvious and hopefully it works." Melito won 5 of her 26 starts for over $1.9 million prize money.
